Senior Attorney-at-Law Sunil Abeyratne joined Ada Derana Biz 24×7 to provide an explanation on the legal aspects of the latest trend in e-Commerce.
Despite the ignoring of certain traditional commercial practices during the latest electronic commercial activities, there have been no changes in the concepts of fundamental commercial laws, says Abeyratne.
“While various activities are being carried out through the internet, one has to be aware whether there are any rules governing them. When financial transactions are carried out through the internet, there are many sub-topics related to them. Intellectual property and security of the funds are some of them,” said Senior Attorney-at-Law Sunil Abeyratne.
The Attorney-at-Law pointed out that the legislation regarding this is the Electronic Transaction Act No. 19 of 2006 and that prior to this, electronic transactions had no legal acceptance. Furthermore, currently SMS (short message services) and emails have legal acceptance as evidence, he added.
