‘Richmond Walk 2016’ a spectacular upshot which has become one of the ‘much looked forward to’ event on Richmond activity calendar, is to happen once again with added pomp and pageantry on 28th Friday 2016. This year’s event is important to all Richmondites as it coincides with the golden jubilee celebrations of the Richmond College Union (Colombo Chapter) which is popularly known as RCU Colombo. It is worthy to note that the RCU Colombo takes pride in setting an unparalleled record in history by becoming the first ever old boys or pupils association to mark a centenary out of all schools in Sri Lanka.
The RCU Colombo which incidentally takes the onus of organizing this annual event this year, expects to showcase a cross section of Richmondites from all walks of life representing old boys of all interest groups, former Principals, teachers and students in a rare show of solidarity on a common platform. As musical bands, cycle parades, dance troupes and other activities would zealously add color to this extravaganza, 4000 enthusiastic participants are projected to attend the walk in uniformity. Mr. Sampath Weragoda, the present Principal of Richmond College extends an open invitation to all Richmond stakeholders to be part of this grand event which is scheduled to commence from College premises in the evening of 28th October 2016.
140 years old Richmond College is a popular premiere school in Sri Lanka which has produced a multitude of national leaders, scholars, scientists, foreign and civil servants, artists, philanthropists and prominent business personalities all around the world. The RCU Colombo was founded by the late Mr. Cyril Wickremesinghe who was the grandfather of Hon Ranil Wickremsinghe, the incumbent Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. As a special gesture, The Hon Prime Minister has agreed to grace the grand finale event, a majestic banquet with 500 distinguished guests to be held at the Hilton hotel in December this year.
