OZO Hotels in Sri Lanka has signed an MoU with NetWwater (Network of Women Water Professionals) to collaborate on the “OZO for H2O” CSR programme, aimed at developing a rain water harvesting system that will provide rural schools with access to clean water for better hygiene and sanitation.
Under this partnership, the first project will see the development of a rain water harvesting system for Balana Kanishta Vidyalaya, which is situated in the Denuwara Education Zone in Kandy, and only a few steps from the historic Balana Fort. The school offers education to 194 students, and there are 21 teachers, who maintain their curriculum with the minimal facilities and without access to clean water.
OZO Hotels will develop the rain water harvesting project through financial contributions from fundraising activities, as well as through voluntary initiatives by the team members of OZO Colombo and OZO Kandy. Similarly, NetWwater will contribute to the project by providing technical support.
“We have identified the preliminary issues of Balana Kanishta Vidyalaya and are happy to make a commitment to support these children by not only providing access to clean water supplies, but also by sharing the knowledge of natural water resource conservation powered by NetWwater” said Simon Dell, Vice President and Area General Manager of ONYX Hospitality Group in Sri Lanka.
NetWwater is a registered organisation in Sri Lanka made up of women volunteers devoted to the promotion of the Dublin-Rio principles of holistic water management.
The partnership originated from the guiding principles of NetWwater and OZO’s CSR strategy, OZO for H2O. Led by the corporate social responsibility commitment of ONYX Hospitality Group towards a better and a greener world, the partnership aims to promote the conservation of natural water resources and to raise awareness of water scarcity in the climatic regions of Sri Lanka.
