President Maithripala Sirisena said that the current tax collection mechanism should be efficient and systematic for the development of the national economy.
He stated this addressing the 16th annual meeting of Commissioners Association of Inland Revenue held yesterday (6th April) in Colombo.
He said, number of issues has occurred due to the shortcomings in the state institutions, private companies and investment projects with regard to the collection of state income.
President also said that everyone must fulfill their duties and responsibilities to improve the citizen’s life style and create a prosperous economy for them. To improve the quality of tax collection in Sri Lanka, number of foreign training sessions will be introduced to the staff members.
He expressed his appreciation for the support given by the Inland Revenue which plays a crucial role in the state economy.
He also paid his attention to the issue raised and suggested to recruit required officials immediately.
