The Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) will be hosting its first-ever International Symposium on Industrial Systems (InSys) on December 18 at the SLTC in Padukka.
Organized by the Office of Research & Innovation (ORIS) of SLTC, this one-day symposium will bring together industrial experts, innovative academics and researchers from local and overseas universities to a common platform to disseminate their latest research findings and exchange views and ideas under the theme of Innovations for a Sustainable Future.
“By 2050, this planet will have more than nine billion people living in it. If we don’t change anything in the way we live, manufacture goods, and innovate, then we will need the resources of almost three of our planets to meet the demands of the people. This symposium will be an opportunity to learn and study the possibilities of how we can make decisive contributions to innovative and sustainable solutions to meet these global challenges,” said Mr. Ranjith Rubasinghe, President SLTC.
The reputed panel of keynote speakers comprises of 3 IEEE fellows including Prof. Arumugam Nallanathan, Fellow IEEE, Professor in Department of Informatics, King’s College London, Prof. Saman Halgamuge, Fellow IEEE, Director/Head, Research School of Engineering, Australian National University, and Prof. Bejoy Ghosh, Professor of Mathematics, Texas Tech University, USA.
Also on the panel will be Mr. Wasantha Deshapriya, Secretary, Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure who will speak on a sustainable future for technology innovations. Mr. Deshapriya has been a prominent figure in Sri Lanka’s endeavour towards becoming an e-Government through the “Re-Engineering Government” programme.
The Symposium will be conducted through two technical sessions; for researchers to present their latest research findings in the areas of Communication Engineering, Dynamical Systems, Robotics and Controls, and a workshop on Immerging Technologies in Mobile Communications for local engineers. The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Himal A. Suraweera from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
An exhibition of innovative product development by engineering undergraduates will be organized as integral activities of the symposium.
Over one hundred local and international researches, academics and industrialist are expected to participate in the symposium. Some of the on-going research that will be discussed at this Symposium will include a variable selection method for Increasing the classification accuracy, the survey on nonlinear phase noise compensation techniques in optical fiber communication, time dependent diffusion coefficient of zooplankton in an interactive environment and a survey on digital nonlinearity compensation techniques for optical fiber communication systems.
