Sri Lanka’s homegrown brand OCTA announced the sponsorship of the Division ‘C’ Rugby team of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) at an event held last week at the SLIIT Auditorium.
OCTA, a subsidiary of the EWIS Group, officially handed over team shirts to the Captain of SLIIT Rugby, Sanishya Rathanayake, Vice Captain and SLIIT Sports Council President Kasun Deemantha and the entire team and coach. Present at the event were SLIIT’s head of sports Mr. Yasas Mallawarachchi, senior manager HR and Administration Mr. Panduka Mallawarachchi and SLIIT sports and physical education manager Mr. Hettiaarachchi, along with Gajaba Weerasinghe head of products OCTA.
Speaking to the entire team, Mubarak Sadhar, Chief Marketing Officer, OCTA said, “We are proud of this sponsorship and we believe that your team will wear this shirt with pride and passion. He added, “Our brand denotes bravery and courage and that is how we see perceive the SLIIT team on the playing field.”
As a private university, SLIIT has the unique position of being a member of the national Rugby Union. “Our students take part in 15 sports on a competitive level and rugby is one of the most important sports in our annual calendar,” said Yasas Mallawarachchi. “Our rugby team is on par with any other state university and we look forward to great season.” He went on to thank OCTA for this sponsorship which he says, adds as encouragement and incentive to perform well during the upcoming season.
The SLIIT Rugby team comprises students from diverse fields of study including ICT, Engineering, Business Management and Hospitality.
