Recent Cabinet decisions outlined that the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) has planned to conduct the next census of population held once in 10 years, in the year 2021.
As such, the proposal made by Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to conduct the listing stage of the census of population and housing in the year 2020 and the enumeration and data dissemination stages in the year 2021, had been approved by the Cabinet.
