NIFT-TEA Knitwear Institute, promoted by Tirupur garment exporters, plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel shortly to seek expertise on production management.
The tie-up is gains significance as the Lankan Institute is known for producing some of the best technical experts in production technology and management.
The alumni of the Institute are posted in key managerial positions across the globe, including in clusters such as Tirupur.
Diploma courses
“As part of the tie-up, the NIFT-TEA Institute will conduct four diploma courses here on Production Technology, Industrial engineering, Automated device management and Production management with the course modules replicated from that followed by the Lankan Institute”, T.R. Vijayakumar, a prominent apparel exporter and chairman of skill development division of NIFT-TEA Institute.
These will be four-month to one-year courses.
Resources persons from NIFT-TEA Institute will get trained at the Lankan Institute to handle these programmes.
Experts from the Lankan Institute will visit Tirupur to monitor the progress of the courses.
“The main aim of the courses is to produce efficient persons in production management for textile units in Tirupur cluster which, in turn, will be a key factor to ensure cost efficient production”, said Mr. Vijayakumar.
Presently, many units in the cluster have been struggling to minimise the cost of production as well as adapt to technologies when machines used in the apparel production gets updated due to lack of adequate specialised trained people to handle production processes.
