The Commercial Bank of Ceylon celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June by engaging in the planting of Jak and Mango trees in the gardens of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL).

Jak (Artocarpus heterophyllus) and Mango (Mangifera indica) are believed to be high Carbon Dioxide (CO2) absorbers, making them ideal for air purification, and were chosen for that purpose, the Bank said.

The trees were planted in a one and a half acre section which has been landscaped by the Commercial Bank as part of a CSR initiative. The Bank has also appointed a full time caretaker to look after the maintenance of the garden. The gardening project was taken up by the Bank to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of patients by enhancing the aesthetic and environmental values of the property.

The Bank said it plans to continue planting Jak and Mango trees within this section for the benefit of the environment and the health of patients, visitors and staff of the National Hospital.
