SLT to power South Asia’s tallest building “Colombo Lotus Tower” with state-of-the-art technology

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the national ICT Solutions Provider in the country was proud to announce that it is the Telecommunication Service Partner for the Colombo Lotus Tower project. SLT and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regards to the project amidst a gathering of officials from TRCSL, SLT and China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation (CEIEC).

Once completed, the Lotus Tower will stand at a total height of 350m, the tallest tower in South Asia, and will also act as a single transmission hub for telecommunications, Digital TV and radio, helping to reduce the carbon footprint in the city whilst improving the quality of transmissions. It will be one of the main tourist attraction centers in Colombo City with the inclusion of shopping centers, food courts, restaurants, banquet halls, and an observation deck.

With the signing of the MoU, SLT will bear sole responsibility for building the ICT Infrastructure for the Lotus Tower.

Mr. Sunil S Sirisena, Director General / TRCSL in his address at the signing ceremony said, “The Lotus Tower will be a multi-functional telecommunication tower and an entertainment center that is expected to enhance the beauty of the skyline of Colombo whilst providing infrastructure for latest Digital Terrestrial Video Broadcasting network, FM broadcasting and telecom service providers helping them to enhance the quality of transmissions and improving access to high quality ICT services. We welcome Sri Lanka Telecom, being the licensed National Backbone Provider in the country for coming forward to develop the necessary ICT facilities in the Lotus Tower for all broadcasters, all telecom operators and the general public visiting the Colombo Lotus Tower. As the Telecommunication Service Partner for the project, SLT has a key role to play since the ICT infrastructure forms the basic foundation for the project and is key to realizing this vision and ensuring its success. We are confident of SLT’s capabilities to handle this massive project with utmost professionalism, being the national Backbone license holder in the country”.

In his address Mr. P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, SLT Group Chairman said, “We are proud to have been selected as the Telecommunication Service Partner for this massive project, which is foreseen to be a landmark building project in South Asia. Once the ICT infrastructure has been completed, it will provide the platform for SLT to deploy our state-of-the-art futuristic enterprise and consumer end total solutions including voice, networking, data hosting, managed services as well as cloud services, to our clients with the highest quality and reliability, ensuring high accessibility for all. We thank the TRCSL for the confidence and trust they have placed on us by appointing us as the Telecommunication Service Partner for this project and we look forward to serving our customers with futuristic ICT solutions.”

Once the envisioned ICT infrastructure has been laid, other telecom operators will also have the opportunity to provide their services by leveraging on the state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure at the Lotus Tower.

The MoU was signed by SLT Group Chairman, Mr. P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena and Mr. Dileepa Wijesundera, Group CEO of SLT on behalf of SLT with Mr. Sunil S Sirisena, Director General of TRCSL signing on behalf of TRCSL. Mr. Sujan Nanayakkara, Deputy Director General / TRCSL, Mr. Dharmasiri De Alwis, Project Director – Lotus Tower, Mr. Kiththi Perera, Chief Enterprise and Wholesale Officer SLT as well as representatives from CEIEC – the Chinese conglomerate contractor of Lotus Tower project, as well as other officials from SLT and TRCSL were present at the MoU signing.
