The Exporters Association of Sri Lanka (EASL), an affiliated trade organization of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce welcomes the lifting of the EU ban imposed on the export of Sri Lanka fisheries products to the EU market.

The latest move by the EU, which was also endorsed by The Seafood Exporters Association of Sri Lanka, a constituent partner of the EASL will help the local fisheries industry to restore its ‘preferred supplier’ status within a short period in the European region.

EASL view the restoration of the concession as an encouraging sign, as the ban had badly affected the fisheries industry thus impacting the overall export income of the country during the year 2015. The EASL also like to commend the government of Sri Lanka for its determined and active role played towards revoking the EU ban imposed on local fisheries industry.

The EASL also believes that the Government of Sri Lanka, and all related agencies will be encouraged by this victory and will continue to lobby for the restoration of GSP + concession, which will help further boost the local export sector.
