KOCHI: The Confident Group will sponsor the Men’s and Women’s cricket teams of Sri Lanka for the ICC Twenty-20 World Cup – 2016, to be held in India during the March-April period.
Speaking at a press conference at Bolgatty Island here on Friday, as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Group, chairman and founder Dr Roy C J said that Lasith Malinga would lead the international Twenty-20 squad of Sri Lanka.
At the function, the official jersey of the Sri Lanka team was unveiled by Dr Roy by handing over the same to Sri Lanka Cricket assistant secretary Raveen Wickramaratne.
The Confident Group, headquartered in Bengaluru with operations spread across the country and abroad, has diversified into the nine verticals of Infrastructure, Hospitality, Aviation, Entertainment, Education, Healthcare, Golfing, Perfumery and International Trade.
The Group was sponsor of the West Indies team for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and the ICC World Twenty-20 tournament held in Bangladesh in 2014. “We are really excited about sponsoring the World’s Number-1 T20 cricket team. Today, T20 is the most popular format of the game.
The highest order of agility, concentration and game expertise are the success formula, and the Sri Lanka team has the best of them all. Being part of the world’s number-1 team gives exposure and brand value to the Confident Group, which is an international conglomerate of US$1-billion asset base,” said Dr Roy.
The Sri Lankan team will start its campaign with a match against a qualifier team in Group-B on March 17 in Kolkata, before taking on the West Indies (March 20, Bengaluru), England (March 26, Delhi) and South Africa (March 28, Delhi).
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Lanka Cricket assistant secretary Raveen Wickramaratne said, “It is indeed a great pleasure for us to join hands with the Confident Group as sponsor for the Men’s and Women’s cricket teams for the upcoming ICC Twenty-20 World Cup – 2016. The partnership is mutually beneficial. I am confident that our team would stage a sterling performance in India to defend the coveted title, and give global exposure to the product portfolio of the Confident Group.

Baseline Ventures cofounder and managing director Tuhin Mishra and Confident Group-Kerala Division managing director T A Joseph also spoke.
The Group is currently executing 131 projects in South India, with 15 million sqft of construction and 43 million sqft of plot development, supported by 15,450 satisfied customers.
